Oregon City (Ore.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 15 in Oregon, but was stunned by
Grant (Portland, Ore.), 49-34. Grant was ranked at No. 58 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Oregon coming into the week.
The Generals led 28-21 at halftime, but the Pioneers recaptured the lead on a touchdown with 10:00 to go in the third. Grant grabbed hold of the lead when
Sam Davis thew a touchdown to
Cordell Harris with 3:00 left in the third quarter, and never relinquished it.
Each side put up seven points during the third quarter, and the fourth quarter began with the margin still at seven.
GHS's defense chipped in with 12 points of its own during the win.
The Portland school's most effective player was Davis. He threw three touchdowns.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Generals, which was coming off a 36-33 defeat at the hands of Sprague in its previous game.
Grant (3-3) will play a non-conference game against Aloha next week, while Oregon City (3-3) will take on West Linn in a 6A Three Rivers game.
