Forge Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Platte Valley a 10-0 shutout. The Fury might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by seven runs or more this season.
Ben McLean and Asher Garner did most of the damage at the plate: McLean went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run, while Garner went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most doubles McLean has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sullivan Strange, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Forge Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .346 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Denver Christian sidestepped Platte Valley for a 1-0 victory.
Denver Christian's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was James Lord, who went 2-for-4 with one double.
Denver Christian's victory bumped their record up to 20-9. As for Forge Christian, their win bumped their record up to 24-4.
Forge Christian's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's match. The Fury have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Denver Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Forge Christian continue to outrun the ball?
Forge Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Denver Christian in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Fury since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
