Cox hasn't had much luck against Ocean Lakes recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Cox will look to defend their home field against Ocean Lakes at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Cox 2.5, Ocean Lakes 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Last Thursday, Cox didn't have quite enough to beat Kellam and fell 4-2. The loss was the Falcons' first of the season.
Cox saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Piper Aman, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Aman has posted since back in April of 2024. Morgan Hauser also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Ocean Lakes made sure to put some runs up on the board against Bayside on Monday. Ocean Lakes blew past Bayside 15-2. The result was nothing new for the Dolphins, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Kaitlyn Wilms made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Wilms was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Ocean Lakes got a massive performance out of Lu Cirillo, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Devynn Sawyer was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Ocean Lakes always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bayside only posted an OBP of .250.
Ocean Lakes' win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Cox, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cox has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ocean Lakes struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 12 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
