Sullivan County hasn't had much luck against Muncy recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Griffins are taking a road trip to take on the Indians at 11:00 a.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Wednesday, Sullivan County made easy work of Sugar Valley Rural and carried off a 26-2 win. That 24 run margin sets a new team best for the Griffins this season.
Emilia Viveiros made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Sullivan County let Kayla Fowler and Mariah Hallabuk run wild. Fowler scored four runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Hallabuk went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. With that strong performance, Fowler is now averaging an impressive 1.5 stolen bases per game. Maizey Keeny also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Sullivan County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .674. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sugar Valley Rural only posted an OBP of .389.
Meanwhile, Muncy got the win against Millville on Wednesday by a conclusive 23-2. The Indians have beaten the Quakers the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Quakers has come to flipping the script.
Chevelle Bauman was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Bauman was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leah Vest, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Taylor Shannon, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Sullivan County's record now sits at 4-2. As for Muncy, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Sullivan County suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Muncy when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Griffins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
