The Pagosa Springs Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the Monte Vista Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Pagosa Springs sitting on 19 straight wins and Monte Vista on five.
Last Saturday, Pagosa Springs was able to grind out a solid victory over Montezuma-Cortez, taking the game 61-48. Given Pagosa Springs' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Montezuma-Cortez is ranked 196th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Blake Laner continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds and four blocks. Another player making a difference was Ridge Wilson, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and three blocks.
Meanwhile, Monte Vista blew past South Park, posting a 64-24 victory on the road. That 40 point margin sets a new team best for Monte Vista this season.
Pagosa Springs' win was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.2 points per game. As for Monte Vista, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
Pagosa Springs beat Monte Vista 41-32 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Will Pagosa Springs repeat their success, or does Monte Vista have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
