The Cortez Colts are taking a road trip to challenge the Cactus Cobras at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Cortez has given up an average of 13.9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Cortez came up short against Yuma on Tuesday, falling 17-1. The Colts have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cactus). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Westview a 25-0 shutout on Tuesday. With that win, the Cobras brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
Ciara Anthony was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, four runs, and two triples.
In other pitching news, Charlee Shaver looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (two).
Back at the plate, Charley Enos was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Rhyan Enos, who scored four runs while going 4-for-4.
Cactus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .650. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.
Cortez's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Cactus, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-9.
Cortez suffered a grim 30-2 defeat to Cactus when the teams last played back in April of 2019. Can the Colts avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
