Baseball Recap: Hico Has No Trouble Against Avalon

On Friday, the Hico Tigers made easy work of the Avalon Eagles and carried off a 13-3 victory. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by eight runs or more this season.

Wyatt Honea made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Hico is undefeated when Honea allowstwo or fewer earned runs, but 2-4-1 otherwise. Honea was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Tyler Jackson and Michael Scheufele did most of the damage at the plate: Jackson scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Scheufele scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-2. Jackson also scored three runs, which is notable because Hico is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-3-1 otherwise. Cade Wilson was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Hico always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Hico now has a winning record of 5-4-1. As for Avalon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3-1.

Coming up, Hico will face off against Rio Vista at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Avalon, they will be playing at home against Non Varsity Opponent at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
