Basketball Game Preview: Kenedy Lions vs. Three Rivers Bulldogs

Kenedy and Three Rivers are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Kenedy Lions will venture away from home to face off against the Three Rivers Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Kenedy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Three Rivers likes a good challenge.

Last Tuesday, Kenedy came up short against Woodsboro and fell 66-55.

Kenedy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Tristan Mireles, who went 9 for 19 on his way to 21 points in addition to six assists and four steals, and DJ Williams, who almost dropped a triple-double on 14 points, 18 boards, and nine blocks. That's the most rebounds Williams has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Karsen Reyes, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 assists.

Even though they lost, Kenedy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in 13 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Three Rivers was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Refugio, falling 62-37. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Bulldogs have suffered against the Bobcats since January 4, 2022.

Kenedy's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-17. As for Three Rivers, their loss dropped their record down to 5-20.

Everything came up roses for Kenedy against Three Rivers in their previous meeting back in January, as the squad secured a 73-43 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kenedy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
