The Straughn Tigers will face off against the Pike County Bulldogs at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Straughn's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Pike County's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last six times Straughn and Pleasant Home have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 12-2 victory. Considering the Tigers have won ten matches by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Brinlee Taylor, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Katelyn Ranta was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Pike County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over Eufaula on Thursday.
Hailey Griffin was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Trawick, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Pike County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eufaula only posted a batting average of .333.
Pike County's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-19. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Straughn, they now have a winning record of 17-16.
Straughn came up short against Pike County when the teams last played last Monday, falling 9-4. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
