The Mansfield Summit Jaguars are taking a road trip to challenge The Colony Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 839 yards in their previous games.
Mansfield Summit barely beat Grapevine the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Jaguars breezed past the Mustangs to the tune of 58-14 on Thursday. That 44 point margin sets a new team best for the Jaguars this season.
Mansfield Summit's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Omogbolahan Daudu, who rushed for 173 yards and a pair of scores on only 15 carries. The dominant performance also gave Daudu a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Domonique(Dj) Young also helped with two touchdowns in total.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Mansfield Summit proved: they limited Grapevine to a paltry 3.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Avery Hardman for the heroic effort on defense: he. Mansfield Summit didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.4.
Meanwhile, The Colony played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Seguin, falling 68-30. While losing is never fun, The Colony can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 221st, while Seguin is ranked 110th).
Mansfield Summit will need to focus on slowing down Jaylen Gaines, one of several The Colony players who made an impact when they last played. He threw for 198 yards and two TDs, and also rushed for 73 yards and one score on only ten carries. Another player making a difference was Kendrick McClodden, who rushed for 120 yards and one touchdown.
The win was the third in a row for Mansfield Summit, bringing their record up to 3-1. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.0 points over those games. As for The Colony, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Mansfield Summit has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 315.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like The Colony struggles in that department as they've been averaging 196.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything went Mansfield Summit's way against The Colony in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as Mansfield Summit made off with a 45-21 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Cougars' Carson Cox, who rushed for 106 yards and three TDs, and also threw for 216 yards on 14 of 24 attempts. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Jaguars to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
