This season hasn't been kind to The Athens Christian Eagles, who are still winless after their tenth game. They were dealt a 45-14 defeat at the hands of Mount de Sales Academy on Friday. Athens Christian was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Mount de Sales Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2022.
When it comes to explaining why Athens Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Bryson Campbell. Despite the final result, he picked up 107 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Mount de Sales Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Caleb Linder, who rushed for 20 yards and two touchdowns, and also caught a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Zavion DeShazier, who threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Athens Christian to a paltry 182 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Mount de Sales Academy's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Joshua Pettigrew and his two sacks.
Athens Christian's defeat was their tenth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-10. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 10.1 points per game. As for Mount de Sales Academy, their win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-9.
Athens Christian will challenge Prince Avenue Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Prince Avenue Christian has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 154 points over their last three matchups. Mount de Sales Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
