Pope John XXIII was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to second in Northwest Jersey - American. Pope John XXIII defeated Morris Hills 35-21 earlier in the week.
Mount Olive moved up to 182 from 241 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 37-21 win over Montville helped the Marauders improve their standing.
Brian Carlson's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Sonny Abramson threw for 111 and one touchdown and Noah Brown had 64 yards receiving. On the ground Brown chipped in 80 yards. Thomas Adams helped Pope John XXIII's passing attack out by catching two balls for 29 yards.
Abramson has thrown for 498 yards and seven touchdowns this season, while Brown has eight catches for 170 yards. Brown leads the league in rushing with 201 yards.
A big matchup in Northwest Jersey - American this week will be when Sparta takes on the Knights. The Spartans are in first place, while Morris Hills is in fifth place.
Mount Olive made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,809 from 8,498. The advance stemmed from a 37-21 victory over the Mustangs last week.
