The Ropes Eagles will face off against the Denver City Mustangs at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Ropes sitting on four straight victories and Denver City on three.
Ropes' pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Friona with a sharp 11-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won three contests by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Zach Ramirez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Ramirez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddux Sierra, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those stolen bases were his first of the season. Ryland Keith was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Ropes always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Friona only posted an OBP of .125.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Denver City). They blew past Muleshoe 15-0 on Friday. With that victory, the Mustangs brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Like Ropes, Denver City also got a great game from a two-way player: Andres Ornelas. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Ornelas has posted since back in April of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Denver City's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-3-1 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Alan Villegas was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Another player making a difference was David Franco, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run.
Ropes' record now sits at 5-2. As for Denver City, their record is now 6-3-1.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ropes has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .497. However, it's not like Denver City struggles in that department as they've averaged .449. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
