If The Shaw Raiders were feeling good off their 30-0 takedown of the Hardaway Hawks last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Shaw was beaten by Westover 38-10 on Friday. Shaw has not had much luck with Westover recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Westover got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Keyon Thomas out in front who punched in two rushing scores, and also threw for 127 yards and a touchdown. Westover also got a significant boost from Kamone Smooth, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 88 yards.
Shaw has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Westover, their win bumped their record up to 5-5.
Shaw will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Starr's Mill at 5:00 p.m. on November 11th. Starr's Mill presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Shaw in Georgia (Starr's Mill is ranked 101st, while Shaw is ranked 310th). Westover will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on LaGrange at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. One thing working in LaGrange's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last four games.
