Basketball Recap: Rashad Carriera Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat American Youth Academy

On Tuesday, the Brandon Academy Scorpions sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 49-46 win over the American Youth Academy Eagles.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Brandon Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rashad Carriera, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Carriera has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Chris Harris, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 boards.

Despite the loss, American Youth Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Adam Ibrahim posted 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mehdi Faouatih, who earned nine points.

Brandon Academy's record is now 5-1. As for American Youth Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Brandon Academy will take on New Jerusalem Christian Academy at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. New Jerusalem Christian Academy will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Brandon Academy surely won't give up without a fight. As for American Youth Academy, it'll be Battle of the Birds when the American Youth Academy Eagles challenge the Florida College Academy Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
