II Section III recap Oct. 16, 2012
Notre Dame Prep was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 10th to seventh in II Section III. The Saints vanquished Cactus Shadows 34-6 earlier in the week.
Chaparral extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Shadow Mountain, 55-7. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Dalton Sneed threw for 153 yards and four touchdowns. He was 10-16 with one interceptions.
Paul Elvira was the best wideout in the league this week as Marcos de Niza beat McClintock. Elvira tallied six receptions for 150 yards. Taylor Blankenship helped Marcos de Niza's passing attack out by catching two balls for 52 yards.
Brady Mengarelli was the most productive running back in II Section III this week. In 24 carries, he ran for 209 yards as Prescott beat the Chargers. Teammate Kaine Bayze added to the ground attack by rushing for 26 yards.
DJ Schroeder made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Badgers topped Mingus. The 5-foot-10 senior grabbed one interception.
5-foot-10 quarterback Bryce Kinsler of the Falcons is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1875. He has also thrown 15 touchdowns. On the ground, Prescott's Mengarelli has rushed for 1712 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Elvira. The Marcos de Niza star has 45 catches for 1037 yards.
Going into this week's game against Paradise Valley, Cactus Shadows' Kinsler needs 125 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Chaparral takes on Horizon. Dave Huffine's team is currently in fifth, while the Huskies are in second.
Horizon took down Camelback 63-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Sneed in the win.
