The Colonial Beach Drifters will challenge the Northumberland Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Colonial Beach has now lost ten straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 27.
Things were looking good for Colonial Beach after they put the first run on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Essex, falling 25-14.
Olivia Belle Cooke stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Zayna Wolfe, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Meanwhile, Northumberland came up short against Westmoreland on Thursday and fell 7-4. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Braylin Beauchamp put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. Beauchamp was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Kierra Coleman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Northumberland's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Colonial Beach, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Colonial Beach has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Northumberland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Colonial Beach suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Northumberland in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Drifters avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
