The Dock Mennonite Pioneers will challenge the Holy Ghost Prep Firebirds at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
On Thursday, Dock Mennonite beat Bristol 4-1.
Riley Kling spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, James Steinmetz was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Jackson Korne, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Holy Ghost Prep's hitters rose to the challenge against an Eagles pitching crew that boasted an average of only 3.27 runs allowed on Thursday. The Firebirds blew past Chichester 15-1. The result was nothing new for the Firebirds, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Matt Riendeau, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in June of 2024. Colin Davis was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Holy Ghost Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Dock Mennonite pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Holy Ghost Prep, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.
Dock Mennonite might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Holy Ghost Prep when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Pioneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
