Clearwater is 1-9 against Sunlake since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Tornadoes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Seahawks at 7:00 p.m. Clearwater is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Clearwater took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They never let Berkeley Prep get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tornadoes have posted since March 8th.
The result came thanks to Morgan Maske's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Clearwater's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kabella Corning, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was Corning's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Sunlake earned a 4-1 win over Hernando on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Seahawks.
Madison Siders spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances.
Sunlake pushed their record up to 16-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Clearwater, their victory bumped their record up to 12-9.
Both Clearwater and Sunlake just can't seem to miss. The Tornadoes have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Sunlake struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Clearwater came up short against Sunlake in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 3-0. Will the Tornadoes have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
