After flying high against the South Putnam Eagles last Saturday, the Edgewood Mustangs came back down to earth. Edgewood took a 53-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Owen Valley on Friday. Edgewood was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Owen Valley apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Edgewood's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mialin White, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Huttenlocker, who scored ten points.
Even though they lost, Edgewood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Owen Valley only pulled down two offensive rebounds.
Owen Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Joey Ross out in front who scored 14 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ross has scored all season. Kaden Hamilton was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Edgewood now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Owen Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-7 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Edgewood will take on Greencastle at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Greencastle focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday. As for Owen Valley, they will be playing at home against Clay City at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Clay City is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
