Basketball Game Preview: Norfolk Collegiate Mighty Oaks vs. Peninsula Catholic Knights

The Norfolk Collegiate Mighty Oaks will square off against the Peninsula Catholic Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Norfolk Collegiate is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.2 points per game this season.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Norfolk Collegiate turned things around against Hampton Roads Academy on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Navigators as they made off with a 53-33 victory. Given the Mighty Oaks' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Navigators are ranked 248th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Justin Burrough continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. What's more, he also racked up five blocks, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Savion Samlal was another key player, putting up five points.

Meanwhile, Peninsula Catholic had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.7 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Saturday. They escaped with a win against the Cadets by the margin of a single free throw, 59-58.

Peninsula Catholic is also on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.6 points per game. As for Norfolk Collegiate, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.

Norfolk Collegiate didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Peninsula Catholic when the teams last played back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 69-64 victory.
