The Safford Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Mohave Thunderbirds at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Friday, Safford was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 19-14 to Pusch Ridge Christian Academy. Safford has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Manuel Dawson, who rushed for 126 yards. Dawson's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards. Another player making a difference was Jojo Ruelas, who rushed for 20 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, after a string of nine wins, Mohave's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell to Sabino 34-29.
Despite their loss, Mohave saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Joe Yoney JR, who rushed for 113 yards and three touchdowns, was perhaps the best of all. Jonathon Williams also helped out as he racked up 114 rushing yards.
Safford's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Mohave, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-1.
