The Northwest Mustangs put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Stover by a score of 59-47. Given Northwest's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 54th, while Stover is ranked 250th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Stover lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ashlyn Pinzke. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Pinzke hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Hannah Bauer, who scored 14 points.
Northwest's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.6 points per game. As for Stover, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northwest will take on Tipton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Stover won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Crocker at 12:00 p.m. on January 13th. Crocker is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
