The Goleman Gators came tearing into Monday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 39-35 win over American.
Goleman found their leader in underclassman Akayla Edwards, who scored 12 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmin Brown, who scored five points along with two steals.
American lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Karissa Perrier, who scored 11 points along with five steals. Perrier hasn't dropped below three steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Lajahnique Olive, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Goleman is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for American, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Goleman will take on the Barracudas at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Florida (Coral Reef is ranked 332nd, while the Gators are ranked 316th). As for American, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Cobras at 3:30 p.m. South Miami is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
