After flying high against the Muncie Burris Owls last Monday, the Yorktown Tigers came back down to earth. Yorktown fell just short of Delta by a score of 54-52. While losing is never fun, Yorktown can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 257th, while Delta is ranked 48th).
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kieran Tewari, who scored 22 points. Tewari scored a full 42.3% of Yorktown's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Grim, who scored 11 points along with six assists and four steals.
Even though they lost, Yorktown were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Delta only racked up seven assists.
Delta got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jackson Wors out in front who scored 23 points. Wors set a new season high mark in points with 23. Another player making a difference was Jordan Furney, who scored 14 points.
Yorktown now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Delta, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.
Yorktown is on the road again on Saturday and play against Pike at 3:30 p.m. on December 9th. Hopefully Pike focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday. Delta won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Tipton at 7:30 p.m. on December 9th. Tipton is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 62.8 points per game.
