The Desert Pines Jaguars scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 74-73 win over Centennial. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Desert Pines' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Damonte Duhart led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. Duhart is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Prince Davis, who scored 24 points along with two steals.
Centennial's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of RJ Nance, who scored 22 points, and Jaden Dudley who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dudley has scored all season. Bryce Iwuoha was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds.
Desert Pines' win bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Centennial, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Desert Pines on the road again on Wednesday and play against Coronado at 6:30 p.m. on January 24th. One thing working in Coronado's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Centennial, they will head out on the road to square off against Bishop Gorman at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bishop Gorman will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
