Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 22 to 12 on the offensive boards, a fact the Cape Fear Colts proved on Tuesday. They blew past Red Springs 68-8 at home. With that victory, Cape Fear brought their scoring average up to 58.5 points per game.
Jayda Angel was on fire: she almost dropped a triple-double on 29 points, 12 rebounds, and 9 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Cape Fear's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anijah Jones, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 10 steals.
Despite the loss, Red Springs still got an impressive performance from Monica Washington, who scored 7 points along with 15 rebounds. Washington scored a full 87.5% of Red Springs' points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Cape Fear and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Red Springs, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cape Fear will take on Triton at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Triton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Tuesday. Red Springs is on the road again on Friday and play against Hoke County at 6:00 p.m. on December 1st.
