Dixie had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the West Field Longhorns on Friday. The victory was nothing new for the Flyers as they're now sitting on nine straight.
Carson Hunt was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
In other pitching news, Ethan McArthur looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Carter Turley, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
Dixie pushed their record up to 18-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for West Field, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-13 record this season.
As of now, neither Dixie nor West Field have any future games scheduled.
