The Dobson Mustangs will head out to challenge the McClintock Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Dobson will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
Dobson will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up seven points two weeks ago, then bounced right back against Paradise Valley on Friday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 36-16 margin over the Trojans. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Mustangs' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.
Dobson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Tremaine Turner, Jordan Robinson, and Kaimir Tyler picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, McClintock had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 66-12 win over the Eagles.
Dobson better focus on containing Fredrick 'CP' Parsons and Aidan Whitaker as the pair were huge in McClintock's win. Parsons rushed for 157 yards and three scores on only nine carries, while Whitaker gained 327 total yards and a touchdown. Parsons' longest rush was for an impressive 66 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Hayden Bajet also helped out with an impressive 129 receiving yards.
McClintock was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 290 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 167 rushing yards in five consecutive contests.
The victory got McClintock back to even at 4-4. As for Dobson, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-5.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Dobson has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 164.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like McClintock struggles in that department as they've been averaging 190.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Dobson was dealt a bruising 56-18 loss at the hands of McClintock when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Mustangs, Jaxon Knutson (who threw for 137 yards and four touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
