The Forge Christian Fury waltzed into their match on Wednesday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They took down Jefferson Academy 55-36. Given Forge Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while Jefferson Academy is ranked 180th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Forge Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Owen Hovis, who scored 17 points along with two steals. Hovis is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Sebastian Still was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Josh Neely, who scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jimeto Orji, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Forge Christian pushed their record up to 11-1 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.6 points per game. As for Jefferson Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-6.
Forge Christian will head out on the road to face off against Middle Park at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Jefferson Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Peak to Peak at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Peak to Peak knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully Jefferson Academy likes a good challenge.
