The Riverside Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mid Valley Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Monday, Riverside was able to grind out a solid win over Dunmore, taking the game 66-55. Given Riverside's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while Dunmore is ranked 454th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the match if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Mid Valley's strategy against Forest City on Monday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Mid Valley blew Forest City out of the water with a 67-28 final score. The win was just what Mid Valley needed coming off of a 77-52 loss in their prior game.
Demaja Dunston was his usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Richard Vinansky, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Riverside's victory bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Mid Valley, they pushed their record up to 12-7 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Riverside couldn't quite finish off Mid Valley in their previous matchup back in January and fell 60-57. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Dunston, who scored 23 points along with seven assists and six steals. Now that Riverside knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
