Baseball Recap: Saturday's Victory Is Elkhart's Third in Last Four Outings

Elkhart came out on top against Culver Academies on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Lions' pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles an 8-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won eight contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Trevor Hilliard's shutout, as he gave up just five hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Greg Guest was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Adrian Pettis also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Elkhart is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Culver Academies, their loss dropped their record down to 16-5.

Coming up, Elkhart will head out on the road to take on Westview at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Culver Academies, they will challenge South Bend Saint Joseph at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
