The West Point Dragons had to endure an 11-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They skirted past St. John Paul II Catholic 33-30. West Point's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why St. John Paul II Catholic lost on Wednesday, one person who can't be blamed is Diana Valencia. Despite the final result, she scored 11 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Those eight steals set a new season-high mark for her. Janey Lopez was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 11 steals.
West Point's victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-10. As for St. John Paul II Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Point will be home for the holidays to greet Browne at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Browne comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. St. John Paul II Catholic will be home for the holidays to greet Mohave Accelerated at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Mohave Accelerated is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
