The Jasper County Hurricanes and the Commerce Tigers squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Jasper County Hurricanes had to settle for second. Jasper County was outmatched by Commerce on the road and fell 58-19. Jasper County was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-7.
Josiah Cotterell and Chevy Sands certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Cotterell picked up 104 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Sands threw for 202 yards and a touchdown.
Jasper County are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-1 Prince Avenue Christian (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63.6% over those games). As for Commerce, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 10-1.
Jasper County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Commerce will take on Dade County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Dade County is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
