If the Woodward Academy War Eagles were riding high off their 76-48 takedown of the Morrow Mustangs on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Woodward Academy lost to Spring Garden on the road by a decisive 70-53 margin on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Woodward Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 43rd in Georgia, while Spring Garden is ranked eighth in Alabama).
Kayla Whitner and Z Williams certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Whitner scored 14 points, while Williams scored 12 points. The contest was Whitner's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Lauryn Cooper was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Woodward Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Spring Garden, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-1.
Woodward Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Jonesboro at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th. Hopefully Jonesboro focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 47 on Friday. As for Spring Garden, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Jacksonville Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m.
