Wyoming Area and Tunkhannock are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Warriors will be playing at home against the Tigers at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wyoming Area has nine straight wins, Tunkhannock has 14 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Tuesday, Wyoming Area was able to grind out a solid victory over Holy Redeemer, taking the game 6-3. That's two games straight that the Warriors have won by exactly three runs.
Jake Snyder was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs.
In other pitching news, Ryan Nemshick tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Alex Vacula, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Mitchell Rusinchak was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.
Wyoming Area hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Tunkhannock fell victim to Wyoming Seminary College Prep and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Blue Knights, falling 8-0.
Wyoming Area's win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Tunkhannock, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-13.
Tunkhannock's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wyoming Area hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .391. It's a different story for Tunkhannock, though, as they've only averaged .206. Will they be able to contain Wyoming Area's hitters?
Wyoming Area got the 'W' in their previous meeting two weeks ago against Tunkhannock by a conclusive 12-0 score. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
