Nantahala is 1-9 against Highlands since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Nantahala Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the Highlands Highlanders at 7:30 p.m. Nantahala has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last six games.
Nantahala scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They came out on top against Blue Ridge Early College by a score of 85-77. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Nantahala's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cole McCoy led the charge by scoring 25 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds. It was the first time this season that McCoy posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Neal, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Highlands beat Blue Ridge Early College 48-37 on Friday. The win was just what Highlands needed coming off of a 80-60 defeat in their prior game.
Nantahala's win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-12. As for Highlands, they pushed their record up to 6-16 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Nantahala came up short against Highlands in their previous matchup last Friday, falling 75-64. Can Nantahala avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
