After two games on the road, Smyrna is heading back home. They will take on the Riverdale Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Smyrna's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
Even though Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences scored an imposing 68 points on Saturday, Smyrna still came out on top. Smyrna took their match against Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences 76-68. Given Smyrna's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences is ranked 256th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jalylle Batey-roberts was his usual excellent self, scoring 29 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Elliyon Kinzer, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, Riverdale came up short against Stewarts Creek on Friday and fell 52-41.
Despite the defeat, Riverdale had strong showings from Hudson Fuqua, who scored 10 points, and Gray Turek, who scored 7 points. Turek is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ryan Edmiston, who scored 6 points along with 7 rebounds.
Smyrna's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.0 points per game. As for Riverdale, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Smyrna hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 69.6 points per game. It's a different story for Riverdale, though, as they've been averaging only 52.5 per game. The only thing between Smyrna and another offensive beatdown is Riverdale. Smyrna didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Riverdale in their previous matchup back in December of 2021, but they still walked away with a 70-65 win. Will Smyrna repeat their success, or does Riverdale have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
