Atlantis were the 54-50 winner over the Avon Panthers when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Atlantis' rough 74-48 defeat to Avon on Monday might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Atlantis can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 220th, while Avon is ranked 88th).
Leading Avon to victory were Thomas Edwards and Nyisah Miranda. Edwards went 9 for 14 from beyond the arc en route to 29 points and 3 assists, while Miranda scored 24 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. The contest was Miranda's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Josiah Guerrier was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks.
This is the second loss in a row for Atlantis and nudges their season record down to 3-5. As for Avon, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
Atlantis will head out on the road to face off against Sturgis East at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sturgis East comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Avon, they will be playing at home against Holbrook at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Holbrook has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 504 points over their last seven games.
