The Liberty Union Lions will head out on the road to challenge the New Hope Christian Academy Statesmen at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Saturday, Liberty Union was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 66-60 to Teays Valley. While losing is never fun, Liberty Union can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 478th, while Teays Valley is ranked 145th).
Despite their defeat, Liberty Union saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Luke Williams, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Tomas Winter, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, New Hope Christian Academy had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They strolled past Green with points to spare last Saturday, taking the game 75-61. The victory was just what New Hope Christian Academy needed coming off of a 81-57 defeat in their prior match.
This is the second loss in a row for Liberty Union and nudges their season record down to 6-8. As for New Hope Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
Liberty Union beat New Hope Christian Academy 59-50 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Liberty Union since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
