Basketball Recap: Mater Lakes Academy Skates Past Mourning with Ease

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mater Lakes Academy had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They blew past the Mourning Sharks 64-13. The Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Mater Lakes Academy found their leader in sophomore Vanessa Vancott, who shot 6-for-8 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 37 points and ten steals. That makes it 18 consecutive games in which Vancott has scored at least a third of Mater Lakes Academy's points. Mya Glover was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

Mater Lakes Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Mater Lakes Academy is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. As for Mourning, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.

Mater Lakes Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, an 85-51 defeat against American Heritage on the 8th. Mourning does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
