The St. Mary's Knights will face off against the Bradshaw Mountain Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Mary's is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, St. Mary's came up short against Marcos de Niza and fell 10-6. The loss continues a trend for the Knights in their meetings with the Padres: they've now lost five in a row.
Giahni Ruiz was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Angie Figueroa was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Bradshaw Mountain never got on the board in their matchup on Saturday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Mohave last Monday. They were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Thunderbirds.
Kodee Statler made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Haedyn Wright was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Laila Silva, who scored four runs while going 3-for-4.
Bradshaw Mountain now has a winning record of 3-2. As for St. Mary's, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. St. Mary's has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .495. However, it's not like Bradshaw Mountain struggles in that department as they've averaged .451. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Mary's might still be hurting after the 18-3 loss they got from Bradshaw Mountain when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Will St. Mary's have more luck at home instead of on the road?
