Ashton Sanchez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Olivia Emerson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Howard, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Margaretta and Huron have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Monday. The Polar Bears lost 11-2 to the Tigers.
Margaretta saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elianna Young, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Lucy Edwards also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Margaretta's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Port Clinton, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Margaretta's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Port Clinton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Margaretta, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Port Clinton keep running through batters, or will the Polar Bears buck the trend?
Port Clinton skirted past Margaretta 6-5 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Redskins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
