The Roane County Raiders had to endure an eight-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 52-40 victory over Calhoun on Friday. That 52-40 margin sets a new team best for Roane County this season.
Roane County was led to victory by Will Odle and Shaun Caldwell. Odle scored 14 points, while Caldwell scored 13 points along with six rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Odle has scored at least 25% of Roane County's points. Cam Cumpston was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
When it comes to explaining why Calhoun lost, one person who can't be blamed is Owen Taylor. Despite the final result, he scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Buckius, who scored two points along with six steals.
Roane County's victory bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Calhoun, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
Roane County will finish 2023 at home by hosting Doddridge County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Calhoun will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Wirt County at 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Wirt County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday.
