Phoenix Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .758. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2025.
Meanwhile, Tonopah Valley had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past Youngker 27-19 on Thursday.
Like Phoenix Christian, Tonopah Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Morgan Green. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Green was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her seven plate appearances with five runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ellie Procunier, who got on base in five of her seven plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nicole Ruiz, who went 3-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double.
Everything went Phoenix Christian's way against Tonopah Valley when the teams last played back in March of 2025, as Phoenix Christian made off with a 15-5 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
