The Grant Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their tenth straight defeat. They took a serious blow against Peabody, falling 77-15. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Grant in their matchups with Peabody: they've now lost six in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Peabody to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jordan Mathews, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. Mathews continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Robert Garland, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds.
Grant dropped their record down to 5-21 with that defeat, which was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Peabody, they have been performing well recently as they've won 18 of their last 22 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 26-6 record this season.
Grant will look to defend their home court on Friday against Tioga at 6:00 p.m. Tiogapresents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Grant in Louisiana (Tioga is ranked 122nd, while Grant is ranked 297th). As for Peabody, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Franklin Parish at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Peabody is not getting complacent considering they own a much higher rank in Louisiana (they are ranked fourth, while Franklin Parish is ranked 45th).
