Spring Creek and Dayton are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Spartans will host the Dust Devils at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Spring Creek has given up an average of 7.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Spring Creek's tournament run continued when they took on Lassen on Saturday. The Spartans came up short against the Grizzlies, falling 15-1.
Spring Creek saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilyanne Benavides, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Dayton had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Lassen 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Dust Devils have posted since March 31st.
LaSade Conti made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since April 1st.
Dayton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lassen only posted a batting average of .115.
The win got Dayton back to even at 12-12. As for Spring Creek, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 14 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-17-1 record this season.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Spring Creek has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .462. However, it's not like Dayton struggles in that department as they've averaged .520. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Spring Creek skirted past Dayton 5-3 in their previous meeting back in March of 2025. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Dust Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
