Pioneer recap Oct. 9, 2012
Pottsgrove extended the longest winning streak in Pioneer this week by beating Methacton, 27-14. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Pottsgrove suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after topping the Warriors. Rick Pennypacker's team had been ranked 24th, but fell to 37 following the defeat.
Aidan Schaffer was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 21 carries, he ran for 158 yards as Upper Perkiomen fell to Pottstown. Teammate Quinn Perlstein added to the ground attack by rushing for 55 yards.
Hank Coyne put up the best numbers through the air as Spring-Ford beat Boyertown. He finished with a total of 11 completions for 201 yards and four touchdowns. Coyne's favorite target this week was Gary Hopkins, who caught three passes for 73 yards.
Veisbergs was the best wideout in the league this week as Pope John Paul II lost to the Trojans. Veisbergs tallied six receptions for 123 yards. Jamel Stinson helped Pope John Paul II's passing attack out by catching three balls for 57 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Sage Reinhart and Monroe Hampton Pottstown has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Reinhart leads the league in passing with 1225 yards, while Hampton has rushed for 829 yards this season. Mike Santillo's team's Veisbergs leads the league in receiving yards with 416 on 17 catches.
A big matchup in Pioneer this week will be when the Falcons take on Owen J. Roberts. Pottsgrove is in first place, while the Wildcats are in sixth place.
The Rams took down the Bears 42-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Coyne in the win.
