The Adams Central Flying Jets will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Fort Wayne Canterbury Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Adams Central's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over Bellmont.
The result came thanks to Cade Van De Weg's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up 14 Ks.
At the plate, Ethan Funk was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jacob Miller, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Fort Wayne Canterbury took care of business in their home opener on Tuesday. They came out on top against South Adams by a score of 13-9.
JP Rohwer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Rohwer was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Fort Wayne Canterbury got a massive performance out of Reed Hayes, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most hits Hayes has posted since back in May of 2024. Braylon Maxey was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Fort Wayne Canterbury always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Adams only posted an OBP of .361.
Adams Central's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Fort Wayne Canterbury, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Adams Central beat Fort Wayne Canterbury 4-0 when the teams last played back in May of 2017. Will the Flying Jets repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
