Cedaredge hasn't had much luck against Coal Ridge recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Cedaredge Bruins will take on the Coal Ridge Titans in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. Cedaredge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season.
Cedaredge saw some tournament action on Saturday. They took a 53-37 bruising from Plateau Valley. The matchup marked the Bruins' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Despite the defeat, Cedaredge had strong showings from Rylan Brooks, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 13 points, and Brady Cooper, who posted nine points in addition to six boards and four steals.
Meanwhile, Coal Ridge was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 67-61 to Windsor Charter Academy.
Cedaredge will need focus on slowing down Ben Simons, one of several Coal Ridge players who made an impact when they last played. He almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Simons is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Sanchez, who put up nine points.
Even though they lost, Coal Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games dating back to last season.
Cedaredge's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Coal Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cedaredge has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31 boards per game. However, it's not like Coal Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 37.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Cedaredge took a serious blow against Coal Ridge in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 89-43. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Cedaredge was down 51-24.
